This Privacy Policy explains how personal data is collected, processed and used within the Bugbox app.

In case of discrepancies, inconsistencies or translation errors, the English version shall prevail and be legally binding.

2. What Data Is Collected?

The app may collect and store the following personal data provided by users:

  • Profile picture, if uploaded by the user
  • Profile description and profile information
  • User-created listings and listing images
  • Messages sent through the in-app chat
  • Favorites and other app-related user actions

In addition, certain technical and usage-related information such as device information, IP address, crash logs, diagnostic data and anonymized usage statistics may be collected automatically by third-party services, including Google AdMob and Google Firebase.

3. Purpose of Data Processing

Personal data is processed for the following purposes:

  • User registration, authentication and account management
  • Displaying user-generated content, listings and profiles
  • Providing chat, marketplace and technical app functionality
  • Providing customer and technical support
  • Improving app stability, security and performance
  • Preventing abuse, fraud and unlawful use of the platform

Bugbox does not sell personal data, does not send newsletters and does not use collected personal data for its own advertising purposes.

4. Advertising with Google AdMob

This app uses Google AdMob to display advertisements. Depending on the user’s consent and applicable regional legal requirements, personalized or non-personalized ads may be shown.

Google may collect technical data such as device identifiers, IP address and usage information to optimize and deliver advertising.

5. Use of Google Firebase

This app uses Google Firebase services, including Authentication, Firestore, Firebase Storage and Crashlytics.

Firebase Authentication is used for user login and account management. Firestore is used to store user profiles, listings, favorites, chat data and other app-related content. Firebase Storage is used to store uploaded images such as profile pictures and listing images. Crashlytics may collect anonymized technical data such as crash reports and device diagnostics to improve reliability and security.

6. Marketplace Function and Third-Party Sellers

Bugbox operates solely as a technical platform that enables users to create listings, view offers and communicate with each other.

Bugbox is not a party to any contract concluded between users and does not act as a seller, buyer, broker, agent or representative.

All listings, offers, sales and purchases are carried out exclusively between the respective users. Bugbox assumes no responsibility or liability for:

  • The accuracy, legality or completeness of listings
  • The existence, condition, quality, origin or delivery of insects or other goods
  • Compliance with wildlife protection, export, import or customs regulations
  • Payments, refunds, disputes, damages or losses arising from user transactions

Users interact with other users at their own risk. Any claims arising from transactions must be asserted directly against the respective user.

7. User-Generated Content and Reporting

Bugbox does not actively monitor or pre-screen all user-generated content. However, users may report listings or content that may violate applicable laws, wildlife protection regulations or Bugbox rules.

Upon obtaining knowledge of potentially unlawful or prohibited content, Bugbox may review the reported content and, where appropriate, remove it or suspend the responsible user account.

8. Third-Party Advertising and External Links

The app may display advertisements and may contain external links to third-party websites or services.

Bugbox has no control over the content, design, products, services or destination pages of third-party advertisements or external links. Bugbox assumes no responsibility or liability for such third-party content or services.

9. Data Sharing

Personal data is not shared with unrelated third parties. Data may be shared with service providers strictly required to operate the app, such as Google Firebase and Google AdMob, or where legally required by authorities.

10. User Rights

Depending on applicable law, users may have the right to:

  • Access their personal data
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of their personal data
  • Restrict or object to certain data processing activities

Bugbox is provided “as is” and “as available”. Bugbox does not guarantee uninterrupted, error-free or permanently available operation of the app.

Bugbox assumes no liability for the legality, quality, safety, origin or delivery of insects or other goods traded between users. Liability is limited to intent and gross negligence, except where mandatory liability applies under applicable law.

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time to reflect legal, technical or operational changes. The current version is always available on this page.

14. Language and Legal Binding

This Privacy Policy may be provided in multiple languages. In the event of discrepancies, inconsistencies or translation errors, the English version shall prevail and be legally binding.
